NM Orthopaedics Expands to Uptown

Albuquerque-based New Mexico Orthopaedics has expanded its physical therapy services to the Uptown area.
The new space, on the first floor at 1700 Louisiana NE, is dedicated to helping patients recover after orthopedic surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, according to Daniel Pena. A physical therapy assistant with a strong background as an athletic trainer, Pena also doubles as clinic supervisor.
The first day in business Monday was a full one with 30 patients on deck. Staffers are looking to treat an average of 60 patients each day, Pena said.
The space will be similar to the three other Albuquerque-area physical therapy spaces operated by New Mexico Orthopaedics, he said. Five therapists and two receptionists are staffing the new business, a 5,300-square-foot space kitted out with equipment and exercise areas where patients get back into shape following joint replacements, sports medicine and worker’s compensation injuries. A gym includes an Astroturf track for sports training and conditioning.
The business will be open Monday through Friday.
“The new Uptown location is part of our plan to meet patients where they are, with the services they need to treat all of their orthopedic concerns within one medical practice,” according to group president Dr. Jeffrey Racca.
The business has been serving patients for over 30 years with orthopedic, sports medicine and spine care physicians, working together in the state’s only medical practice that offers diagnosis, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation within one group.
To accommodate increased demand for workers’ comp procedures and treatments, New Mexico Orthopaedics is looking to fill three physical therapy positons at its clinics.
