3/11/22, I had extensive shoulder debridement w/bicep tenotomy. 6/14/22, I started playing golf ⛳ again playing 9 hole twice a week for 4 weeks. Shoulder pain nonexistent during the round, even felt quite well afterwards. 7/14/22 started playing 18 holes once a week. Though I was "tentative" the first 2 rounds, I continued playing 18 holes without any discomfort. I iced my shoulder after each round, felt great. Only problem now is some angles of my shoulder movement is still sore i.e. reaching, shoulder exercises are & have been challenging. Never the less, I will be talking with Dr. Benson on 8/8/22 & discuss my options. A reverse shoulder replacement will be discussed. The fact that I'm playing golf, speaks volumes of how skilled he is. He said I would be playing the game I love. 3 mo. after surgery was truly incredible...!!!!

told me he didn't do surgery for pain and that there was nothing wrong with me because all diagnostics were normal, prior to NMOA, I've never forgotten his unprofessional attitude towards me. I left his office in tears and tried to continue on with my life knowing I was not faking my pain. 4 months later my pain was back with a vengeance, feeling as if I was being stabbed in my elbow with a knife because of his behavior I second guessed myself as to whether I should seek out a 3rd opinion. I knew I couldn't live in this much pain as I need my arms to continue to function equally in order to continue with my current job. Being a healthcare professional myself, I don't put up with poor bedside manner. I'm expected to show respect to all my patients regardless of anything. I expect the same from ANY of my numerous medical providers. I treat all my patients as if they are family, I'm over worked like every other healthcare professional these days, however patients deserve my undivided attention and answers to absolutely any question they have and on that final day I saw Benson he nor his resident could not provide me any answers to my concerns regarding my diagnosis and treatment he stated he couldn't help me and left I was needing more closureor assurance of the treatment I was to need. Dr. Eric Benson is one of the most competent surgeons and all around nice doctors I have ever met. He goes the extra mile for his patients! He did a elbow replacement on me years ago, and continues to provide me with great care even in the face of many challenges since. You can't go wrong with him!

I'm am a 66 y/o male patient that came to Dr Eric Benson because I have bateral rotator cuff tears and a avulsed rt biceps tendon. I weight 276 lbs with a right AKA. Dr Benson refuses to do surgery because of my weight. He is a cherry picker, he doesn't want to tarnish his record, rather than help me in excruciating pain, its a no from me. He is not.a.doctor.thst does his medical path, he does harm by non ccommittal not because he is worried about .y well being it about his perfect record. He is cachet weasel.

ERIC BENSON, MD

Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon

Fellowship Trained in Shoulder, Elbow, and
Hand Surgery

Dr. Benson is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and is fellowship-trained in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery. He believes that patient-surgeon communication is critical to successful outcomes, and he considers it an honor to care for patients whose lives are disrupted by pain or injury. He enjoys educating patients on their condition and the treatment options available to them. After accurately diagnosing the problem, Dr. Benson then helps patients select the best treatment for their needs. Whenever possible, he recommends non-surgical options. Should surgery be recommended, he carefully explains the procedure, its benefits, and potential risks, as well as alternatives. Through collaboration, education, and compassionate care, Dr. Benson strives to achieve the best possible result and help patients return to their active and busy lifestyles.

Dr. Benson specializes in many orthopaedic procedures including total shoulder replacements, arthroscopic shoulder surgery including rotator cuff and labral repairs, arthroscopic elbow surgery, Tommy John surgery, biceps tendon repairs, total elbow replacements, tennis elbow surgery, and treatment of sports injuries and arthritis. Having treated patients for over a decade at New Mexico’s Level 1 trauma center, Dr. Benson also treats simple and complex fractures of the upper and lower extremities.

Dr. Benson grew up in Washington, DC and went on to earn his undergraduate degree in English from Princeton University. He completed both his Master of Science in Physiology and his Doctor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. After moving to New Mexico, he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at UNM. Dr. Benson then traveled to Canada for one year where he completed a Fellowship in Shoulder, Elbow, and Hand surgery at the world-renowned Roth-McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Center (HULC) in London, Ontario.

Before joining New Mexico Orthopaedics, Dr. Benson was the Chief of the Division of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery at UNM’s Department of Orthopaedics where he practiced for 13 years. While there, he was the elbow surgeon for the UNM Lobo athletes, published multiple articles and book chapters, and he trained tomorrow’s orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Benson believes in a balanced and active lifestyle. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, traveling the globe, skiing, playing tennis and golf, and painting.
